Meet Our Partner: Beit Khairat Souf, Jordan
Traverse is incredibly proud to partner with Beit Khairat Souf in Jerash for our Taste and Trails of Jordan itinerary. Since 2016, this NGO in Jordan has been empowering women from all walks of life through education and economic development opportunities.
Beit Khairat Souf is the first and only productive women's initiative in the remote village of Souf. By drawing tourists and donors to this village, it has become a new tourist destination in Jordan and allowed many local women to succeed by marketing their products and improving their socio-economic conditions. In this article, we'll dig deeper into Beit Khairat Souf, its mission, and how you can contribute to the positive impact of this life-changing organization.
About Beit Khairat Souf NGO in Jordan
Originally constructed in 1881 and recently renovated in 2016, Beit Khairat Souf is an extraordinary heritage home and cultural site located just north of Amman in the city of Jerash. The historic home that once belonged to the Batarseh family is now managed by a group of strong and ambitious women who make up the Alnoor Almouben Association for Social Development.
Beit Khairat Souf aims to provide a safe space for women in Jordan to learn new skills and market their products as well as create a positive economic impact on their families. The social enterprise is made up of a kitchen, restaurant, and shop, where women from the village of Souf are provided with a space to become entrepreneurs and achieve financial independence.
The organization also works on preserving the cultural identity of the community by hosting various activities such as traditional meals and cooking classes that showcase the area's unique cuisine. In addition, Beit Khairat Souf has created a product store that sells an array of local items such as jams, pickles, olive oil, vinegar, molasses, herbs, and coffee.
Mission
Beit Khairat Souf's mission is to empower women in the Souf community and give them the tools they need to succeed. Through their workshops, activities, and product stores, this NGO in Jordan strives to create job opportunities for local women while helping them build better lives and benefit their community.
Beit Khairat Souf is the first productive women's initiative in this village—promoting the idea that all women can engage in income-generating activities and be successful. The primary goal of Beit Khairat Souf is to create a platform for local women to financially support themselves through opportunities for economic development in the heart of Souf.
