Gearing up for our Yoga + Surf retreat in November, we thought we’d go straight to the source on what it’s like in this outdoor adventuresome locale. In an earlier post we introduced Barrio Planta Project, our community partner on the Yoga + Surf Nicaragua trip. We had a chance to talk to the founder, Dyani Makous, for a in-depth look at the project and we're so excited to volunteer with them!
When we look for a community partner, there are a few things we know. They need to be part of the local community serving current needs. We want a partner that is cultivating growth in people or the planet (or both!). Like many wonderful connections in life, they frequently seem to happen serendipitously. Meeting our yoga instructor, Gigi Mao, was just that. We were in search of a specific instructor for our yoga and surf retreat in Nicaragua who could lead our intimate group in a journey of mindfulness, while also being fun! We knew right away: this was the one.
