COVID-19 Safety for our Guests

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Traverse Journeys has implemented a new Flexible Booking Policy and created a Safety and Risk Management Framework for tour operations specifically to address COVID-19. The framework is guided by the Adventure Travel Trade Association, the Cleveland Clinic, the CDC, WHO, Travel.state.gov and a cohort of adventure travel and small group travel operators. Our framework centers around the following six components:

Group sizes remain small

Our groups trips have always been small, and we will continue to cap participants at 12 per trip in nearly all cases. In fact, it’s common for there to be 6-10 guests on our trips. We’ve always prioritized the connected and curated experienced this offers our guests, not to mention the more exclusive and unique activities you can do in small groups and the more conscious impact we can all have.

When joining our group trips, guests have the option to book a private room. If you’d like even more confidence in your travel experience we also offer the option to book your own custom guided trip. In addition, we’ve added a collection of self-guided itineraries, bookable with just 1-2 participants or more for a fully independent travel experience.

Hygiene and Sanitation Enhancements

We are working with our global partners including local guides, transit providers, accommodations, and other service provides to ensure that rigorous cleaning and sanitation is in place and adhered to in accordance to standards set by local authorities, the WHO, the CDC as well as guidelines set by the adventure travel industry. For example, cleaning vehicles at the end of each day, ensuring frequent hand washing opportunities, frequent cleaning of high touch point surfaces like door handles, having hand sanitizer available at all times, etc.

Reducing Risk of Exposure

We operate under the assumption that while elimination of risk is not possible at this time, we can reduce risk of exposure through:

  • More time spent in nature and the outdoors.

  • Continuing to use small, boutique accommodations rather than large hotels.

  • Using private transport frequently, and in quite a few cases throughout the entire itinerary.

  • Recommending (and in some cases requiring) face masks during transit (planes, cars, buses, trains, etc.) and when visiting more popular sites (museums, city attractions, etc.)

  • Ensuring that hand sanitizer is always available as well as frequent opportunities for hand washing.

Health Screening Questionnaires and Waiver

Our guests will now be required to submit a COVID health screening questionnaire and waiver prior to trip departure which will include questions related to symptoms and testing. Clients with COVID symptoms and/or a positive test within 72 hours of trip start will not be permitted to attend. Any on-site Traverse host or local guide will also undergo screening prior to trip start.

Emergency Response Plan of Action

We have a detailed emergency response plan in the event that you or anyone else on the trip show symptoms or test positive for COVID. In addition to general COVID guidelines, we follow activity-specific guidelines outlined by ATTA for Camping, Cycling, Trekking, Culinary Experiences, Cultural Tours, Small Lodges, Wildlife and Small Vessels/Cruising.
