4 Reasons to Travel with Mom

Even though Mother’s Day rolls around just once a year, most moms would agree that any time is a good time to celebrate their hard work, love and dedication. And what better way to celebrate than by traveling together? Here are 4 reasons to travel with mom:

1. Bond in a New Way

Visits to your childhood home, family barbeques, or holiday gatherings certainly have their special place but they also tend to follow the same routine and pattern. Traveling takes you both out of your comfort zone and you have to figure things out together. There’s nothing like navigating a foreign city, tasting a new food, or experiencing a new culture, and doing so with someone else is a bonding experience in and of itself.

2.  Re-Acquaint with Each Other

Most parent/child relationships – even when we’re all adults – have some element of the past still in them. Our memories of each other from 15 years ago are fixed in our minds, and sometimes we forget that we both change and mature over time. Travel is an opportunity to get to know your mom in a new way, not just as your parent and nurturer but as a friend and companion – and a great way for her to see you that way, too.

3. Share Old Memories –

There’s nothing quite like reminiscing over the past, especially over a fantastic meal or stroll along the beach. Talk, laugh, and cry your way through favorite memories or even tough times. Travel can be a great time for release, too, refreshing your soul and your relationship.

4. Create New Memories

Better than pictures and more memorable than things are the experiences that we have when traveling, the ones that bring out emotions of excitement, curiosity, wonder.  Sharing those feelings with others, especially a companion of life like your mom, means that when you miss that feeling you can go back to it – together.

Where have you been with your mom?

Let us know!

Our favorite trips with mom!

Amazon Ecuador – Especially our community partner day with the local women’s lodge. Preparing a traditional Amazon meal and making artisan crafts together might just remind you of your creative pursuits of childhood!

Iconic Italy – What mom doesn’t want to visit Italy?! Gorgeous landscapes, classic sites, and fantastic food all with our local Italian guide make this trip both memorable and meaningful.

Machu Picchu – Our hiking and non-hiking versions make it possible for both of you to go! The 9-day trip splits in the middle so that the super adventurous ones can take the 4-day classic Inca trail hike, while the others stay back to explore ruins in the Sacred Valley (and sleep in a real bed, not a tent!).
