Day 2 Monday: Market visit & cooking class

We’ll wake up no-too-early for a refreshing morning yoga session before a light breakfast of healthful, local fare. Get out and explore San Miguel, and keep lunch light to save room for our cooking feast! In the afternoon, we’ll head to the market and learn the names of fresh and dried chilies, common herb and spice combinations, and seasonal ingredients before heading back to make a traditional, healthful meal together. You’ll have time to relax in the gardens or at the pool in the after before a grounding evening flow.

Day 3 Tuesday: Guanajuato & diego rivera museum

After morning yoga and breakfast, we’ll drive about 1½ hours to the neighboring city of Guanajuato, the capital of the region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magical city is like going back in time, with small cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways, and numerous plazas and colonial-era architecture. We’ll first visit the Diego Rivera museum to learn more about this iconic artist of the 20th century who portrayed the entire social & political history of Mexico through art. Then the rest of the day is yours to explore. Consider a snack at the local market, check out the Mummy Museum, or take the funicular up the hillside for panoramic views of this colorful city. We’ll depart back to San Miguel in the late afternoon and settle back in with a home cooked meal at our B&B and evening slow flow yoga.

Meals: B, D

Day 4 wednesday: botanical gardens

Wake up to yoga and your healthful breakfast then take an uphill walk about 30 minutes to the gorgeous botanical gardens of San Miguel (or you can take a taxi). Your entrance is included, and our local guide will teach us all about the native plant species in the region and their ecological, cultural and medicinal importance. We’ll finish around noon, and you can head back into town for lunch and explorations. After our late afternoon yoga session, the evening is yours to enjoy more delicious cuisine and take a paseo through the beautiful streets of San Miguel.

Meals: B

Day 5 thursday: Community partner & farewell dinner

After yoga and breakfast, our community partner will pick us up to head to their organic farm just outside the city. We’ll take a recorrido around the property to learn about sustainable agriculture in the region and its important role in the local economy and environment. We’ll return midday for free time in town. Consider visiting one of San Miguel’s many museums, or shop in the local boutiques for mementos to take home. In the late afternoon, we’ll do an extra stretchy yoga session to prepare for tomorrow’s travel before our Farewell Dinner in the evening at a fabulous organic café run by our community partner.

Travel Insurance
Trip protection-style travel insurance that includes travel medical coverage is required for all trips with Traverse. The coverage must have a minimum $200,000 of medical coverage and include injury, medical, evacuation, and repatriation. Most domestic US health insurance plans do not cover international travel claims or provide a global network of contracted doctors and facilities. We want to make sure you are covered in case of an emergency or non-emergency illness or injury while abroad. Trip protection coverage protects the investment of your trip, including benefits for items such as trip interruption, trip cancellation, delays, baggage and personal effects, and more. We do not have a required coverage amount, but typically coverage is based on your trip costs. We partner with Wanderwell, a B-Corp Certified provider who can offer both Travel Medical and Trip Protection. If you choose to purchase through Wanderwell, you can buy the trip protection directly from our Traverse Journeys partner page provided in your Welcome Pack, and a portion of your purchase will be donated to WeForest through 1% For the Planet to aid with carbon offset for your trip. With Wanderwell, the TripProtector Classic and TripProtector Preferred plans meet our minimum requirements for coverage. Once insurance is obtained, a copy must be sent to Traverse. Failure to provide proof of insurance within 30 days of booking will result in trip booking suspension until proof of insurance has been provided.

Documents, Personal Identification, Vaccinations
Traveler is responsible for all required travel documents including passport, visas, entry or exit fees, and vaccinations. Traverse does not cover the cost or assist in obtaining any of the above, and reserves the right to collect information on all.
