Adventure across the Atlas Mountains and sleep under the stars in the Sahara at the Erg Chegaga dunes

Meet Amazigh women artisans and learn about their textile traditions and livelihoods

Opt in for an add-on in the ancient city of Fes and the blue pearl of Chefchouen

Morocco is a country of contrasts: Ancient medinas and endless deserts, rugged mountain passes and lush palm oases, centuries-old traditions and vibrant contemporary culture.

This thoughtfully curated nine-day retreat is where adventure, yoga and meaningful cultural exchange combine. Start in your ornately decorated riad in Marrakech before a curated souk visit complete with spice markets, street food tasting and our favorite local artisans. Then, cross the High Atlas Mountains in 4x4s along historic caravan routes to the vast Er Chegaga dune of the Sahara Desert for two unforgettable nights beneath the stars in a family-run camp. Along the way, you’ll also see the dramatic Kasbah Telouet, meet Amazigh women preserving generations of textile traditions, share tea with a nomadic family, and experience the warmth and hospitality that define Morocco.

Each day includes yoga sessions with Retreat Leader Lexi Stikel, where you'll balance exploration with movement, reflection, and opportunities to reconnect—with yourself, fellow travelers, and one of North Africa's most captivating cultures.

Extend your adventure with an optional journey to the imperial city of Fes known for its labyrinth streets and ornate architecture and the “Blue Pearl” of Chefchaouen.

WHY THIS TRIP?

Morocco rewards travelers who slow down. Rather than racing between famous landmarks, this retreat creates space to experience the country's remarkable landscapes, rich traditions, and extraordinary hospitality through meaningful encounters with the people who call it home.

Thoughtfully chosen local partners and experienced guides help you navigate Morocco with confidence, providing cultural context while creating opportunities for genuine interactions that independent travelers often miss. You’ll hear stories of Amazigh heritage, learn about nomadic life, and gain a deeper understand of contemporary Moroccan life.

After your city start in Marrakech, we’ve intentionally built in overnight stays in smaller towns before you reach the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga, Morocco’s largest and most remote sea sand. Spending two nights in the Sahara allows time to slow down - watching both sunrise and sunset over the dunes, sharing tea with a nomadic family, gathering around the campfire for traditional music, and simply experiencing the stillness and vastness of the desert. En route back, you’ll connect with Amazigh women preserving traditional weaving techniques and discover where the beautiful rugs filling Morocco’s medinas truly begin.

Balanced with daily movement, nourishing meals, beautiful accommodations, and time to pause and reflect, this retreat offers space to embrace adventure while experiencing Morocco with curiosity, respect, and intention. You'll return home with unforgettable memories, meaningful friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the connections between culture, landscape, and the resilient communities that call this remarkable country home.

Travel with purpose. Every Traverse Journeys departure includes a contribution to a carefully selected Community Partner, supporting local organizations creating meaningful impact in the destinations we visit. For this trip, your booking supports the Iklan Women’s Cooperative, advancing women's economic empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and the preservation of Amazigh weaving traditions from lamb to finished carpet.
